Quick answer

Look for the exact standard, product and status

For riding shoes sold in India, certification should be communicated at model level. Clan Scout, Torque and Stealth are BIS certified to IS 15298 (Part 4):2024. Stealth is CE-certified to EN 13634:2017; Torque has passed its test programme but its formal CE certification is pending; Scout is not CE-certified.

What certification means

Certification means a defined product or sample has been assessed against the requirements and methods of a named standard. It does not mean every shoe from a brand has the same status, and it is not a promise that injury is impossible.

When evaluating a claim, look for the exact standard, the product or configuration covered, the certification status and any performance levels or optional tests stated in the supporting document.

The standards relevant to Clan riding shoes

BIS and CE references serve different regulatory and market contexts. They should be shown as separate facts, not combined into a single badge.

How to read an EN 13634 marking

The four digits shown after EN 13634 correspond to defined performance categories in the standard. Higher numbers do not create a universal safe-to-safest ranking; they report performance in specific test categories.

Clan Stealth is documented as 1-2-2-1 with IPA, SRA and WAD for the D3O model, and 1-2-1-1 with SRA and WAD for the rigid-TPU standard model. Those markings belong to the stated configurations.

Certification questions

Is BIS certification the same as CE certification?

No. They refer to different standards and conformity systems. A product can have one, both or neither, depending on its verified status.

Does passing laboratory tests mean a product is already CE-certified?

No. Test completion and the issue of formal certification are different stages. Until the certification is issued, the accurate description is that testing has passed and certification is pending.

Does CE certification make a riding shoe crash-proof?

No. Certification validates performance against defined requirements and methods. Protective footwear reduces risk but cannot prevent every injury.

Should I check the exact variant?

Yes. Materials and ankle-protection configurations can differ. The documentation and marking should match the model or configuration being sold.
